Description

Northamptonshire County Council wishes to appoint a Principal Contractor to undertake the construction of a new build extension, together with the refurbishment of the existing Infant School, at Hardwick School, Wellingborough, Northamptonshire.

It is anticipated that the Works will commence at the end of the 2011 summer term. Upon completion the school will become the new Hardwick Primary School.

The new build extension will comprise eight single storey classbases, stores, wc’s, library area and the creation of an “external street” between the new build and existing Infant School building. Adjoined will be a new double height main hall, kitchen and associated stores. The existing school entrance/reception/admin facilities will be enlarged and re-modelled to create a common school reception. The existing Infant School will be refurbished and re-configured to improve the internal layout and circulation of the building.

The existing external areas will be remodelled to create a mixture of hard and soft play areas for the varying age groups.

Upon completion and occupation of the new Hardwick Primary School the existing Junior School will be demolished to allow a new car park layout and creation of new play/sports fields. The demolition, car park remodelling, and creation of the new play/sports fields can only commence once the new school is operational.

The construction work will be undertaken whilst the school remains operational and so the Health and Safety of pupils, staff and the contractor’s workforce will be of paramount importance.
